Water

Linda Community School also benefits from the Zambezi Sunrise Trust supported bore hole that was drilled in 2019. This originally operated with a hand pump but was later supplemented with a water tower, 5,000 litre water tank and submersible pump. They provide a reliable uninterrupted source  of drinking water for the children, water for cooking, water for the toilet blocks, as well as help irrigate crops for the school feeding programme. The school’s mains water bill has also been hugely reduced.

Nekacheya Primary School were able to begin moving to a less cramped site in 2022 and we were delighted to assist in installing some of the infrastructure that made that possible. We assisted with the administration involved in the drilling of a bore hole and later donated a 3,000 litre water tank for it. This is turn was connected to a new ablution block which we partially funded. As well as water for the toilets and shower, the system provides water for cooking and for the growing of fruit and vegetables for the school feeding programme.

Samoonga Combined Secondary School is a rural school outside Livingstone that includes both a primary and a secondary school. Both locations function with a single stand pipe, the water coming from a bore hole and then being stored in a tank with an open top. Zambezi Sunrise have cooperated with our friends at True Thabo to provide a water purification system (including a water education package) for the school. The Lifestraw Community system requires no power, removes at least 99.99% of bacteria, viruses and protozoan parasites and can purify between 70,000 – 100,000 litres of water, enough to serve a school for several years. It prevents common waterborne diseases including cholera, dysentery, gastroenteritis, Hepatitis E and Typhoid Fever. True Thabo is an American non profit organisation committed to the provision of pure water to children and schools. We have also cooperated with them in providing a water purifier to Linda Community School, and they also provided a system to Linda Sunrise Pre School and Homework Club.
