One of our trustees and four supporters joined a ‘home visit’ by the head teacher of Linda Community School today. This involved a four and a half hour hike to outlying areas from which the children walk to school every day. The conditions varied from being very hot to soaked by torrential rain and walking through cloying mud – something they put up with regularly. As well as visiting the homes of particular children, the walk presented the opportunity to distribute bears made by Josie Hind which had been named by donors at the Hesleden Primary School summer fair. Some of Josie’s blankets were also given, as well as a variety of knitted items donated by the ladies of Blackhall Women’s Institute in County Durham, England. Our supporter Michael also donated safety glasses to women who create gravel by hammering rocks into smaller stones at a quarry – he’d brought them from England after witnessing the quarry three years ago.
