Yesterday was a National Day of mourning in Zambia for Queen Elizabeth. Pupils at Nekacheya School and Linda Community School, both of whom have links with schools in the United Kingdom, marked the day of the Queen’s funeral in sympathy with a minute’s silence. The pupil’s at Linda Community School are pictured in the ‘Commonwealth Room’. It was opened for us in 2019 by the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Baroness Scotland, who coincidentally read one of the two lessons at the funeral in London. The children at Nekacheya are holding a letter from Buckingham Palace from 2016 which thanked them for sending their greetings to the Queen.
