Day 3, part 2 of our trustees’ visit. Yesterday afternoon our trustee Joanne spent time with the ladies of Tiyese (‘Let’s Try’) Craft Initiative, a women’s empowerment group we helped establish in Linda compound, Livingstone. Repairs were organised for some of the pedal powered sewing machines we had previously donated (including the use of strips of chitenge material as belts on the machines!). Material was also purchased at Maramba market. The ladies have been concentrating on expanding their skills and the range of items they make in the hope that the coming months will see the continuing return of tourists and volunteers to Zambia. This group started with very limited experience and skills but with mutual support and cooperation they’re now making some really great items.
