Supporting Mpekala Women’s Project. Today was a wonderful day as we accompanied Sister Immaculata to four remote rural villages around Sekute and Kooma. A couple of hours from Livingstone down very bad dirt roads, the villages have seen women’s groups set up to promote crafts, chicken rearing and other empowering projects to avoid reliance on such things as charcoal burning for an income. Following on from our visit last month, some of the ladies had begun making new craft items. We were delighted to present three of the groups with manual sewing machines (there being no way of using electric machines) that were purchased with funds donated by Margaret Clayton from the proceeds of her craft sales in the U.K. You can see from the videos that they were well received!
